Host a Congress Event
Before and after the daily Congress programme, the Congress venue will be alive with congress events such as, launches, performances, activities, meetings and catered networking events. Around 3,000 people from over 160 countries are expected to attend the Congress. You can take advantage of this global gathering of protected area professionals and industry stakeholders by hosting or attending a congress event to advance, network or promote your work.
How do I apply to host a congress event?
An initial round of Congress events closed on the 12 May 2014, these applications are currently being assessed and applicants will be notified of the outcome 30 June 2014.
How will congress events be selected?
The World Parks Congress Management Committee is looking for congress events which add value and contribute to the outcomes of the Congress. The Committee will assess applications based on venue availability and the following selection criteria:
- The proposed congress event broadly relates to the purpose of the Congress and Congress streams and cross-cutting themes
- The proposed congress event adds value to the Congress and for the delegates (i.e. the proposed event is not simply a meeting to continue the work of the day but provides an opportunity for delegates to network and socialise, for example a function, book launch, performance or creative activity)
- The assessment of congress event proposals will also take into account the overall diversity of congress events with regard to event type, country of origin and subject matter.
The World Parks Congress Management Committee will have the final decision the selection of congress events.
Initial Congress Event Assessment
The initial expression of interest for congress events closed 12 May 2014. Submitted proposals are currently being assessed. The assessment will be based on a diverse set of criteria, with a focus on selecting congress events which add value and contribute to the outcomes of the Congress. Please note that the outcome of the assessment process is final.
Initial congress event applicants will be notified of the outcome by 30 June 2014.
Once you have accepted your offer to hold a congress event, the Congress Secretariat will be in contact to arrange logistics. Successful applicants will be considered to have officially confirmed the offer to hold a congress event once they have registered to attend the Congress and paid their registration fee. Offers that are not confirmed via this process will be allocated to other applicants.
Venue and Logistics Information
Room hire is provided free of charge to delegates hosting congress events. Some venues include furniture and equipment, any additional dressings, catering and equipment required over and above that described in the venue description below will need to be paid for by the congress event host.
Venue hire packages have been created for the congress event spaces. A broad estimate of the costs associated with these additional items can be found here. Please note that this information is indicative only and been provided to help you estimate an approximate budget for your proposed congress event. Costs will vary depending on your requirements and the venue itself.
